Promotion of Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene in Hard-to-Reach Areas in Rural Bangladesh |
The Promotion of Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene in Hard-to-Reach Areas of Rural Bangladesh project was funded under the Local Governance portfolio of SDC. The Project was mandated to contribute to the achievement of national goal on WaSH through scalable water supply, sanitation & hygiene services in the hard-to-reach areas. The Project has served around 1 million people ranging from the poor & disadvantaged people in the selected hard-to-reach areas to the policy-makers. The key working approach has been to establish and strengthen governance at the Local Government tier and put UPs in the lead in promoting pro-poor WaSH services in the selected poor & disadvantaged rural communities under 47 hard-to-reach unions. The intervention significantly improved the livelihoods of poor and disadvantaged communities while also providing health benefits to vulnerable groups, including women, adolescent girls, climate-affected individuals, and socially excluded populations. It enhanced livelihood opportunities for these communities.
